INTRODUCTION to FILIPINO LANGUAGE and CULTURE
This introductory course on the Filipino Language and culture is suitable for absolute beginners wanting to learn the national Filipino spoken language, Tagalog or Filipino.
Learning outcomes of the course are as follows: -understanding the richness of the Filipino languages and dialects -pronouncing the Filipino (Tagalog) alphabet, numbers, days and months of the year -understanding sentence structure -use of basic conversation in Filipino (Tagalog) -understanding the most common Filipino customs and traditions most especially the value of respect (pag-galang) using "po" and "opo" in conversations and doing "mano" (kissing or putting the hand of an older or elderly person to one's forehead) when greeting an older person |
FILIPINO CONVERSATION PRACTICE
This course assumes that the student has completed the introductory course on the Filipino Language and Culture in the last 6 months or less and is acquainted with the content of the beginners course. Parts of the class will be conducted in the Filipino language.
Learning outcomes of this course will include the ability to understand and respond in a simple controlled conversation. You will also be able to form simple, appropriate, comprehensible statements and questions/answers on a given simple topic. Students will have further understanding of the Filipino culture. |
